Natalie Portman commanded the red carpet in opulent jewel shades at the opening of the Venice Film Festival for the photo call for her new psychological thriller Black Swan, in which the star plays a tortured ballerina who is cast in an upcoming production of Swan Lake. Directed by Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream) and co-starring Mila Kunis (who is rumored to have an aggressive sex scene with Portman in the film), Black Swan is filled with magnificent costumes (designed by Rodarte’s sisters Mulleavy) that will no doubt delight style watchers when it opens this December.

If you’re like me, you remember Alyson Stoner as the co-host of Mike’s Super Short Show on the Disney Channel in 2002, but she’s grown up into a gracious and sweet triple-threat with multiple projects in entertainment. Her newest film, Step Up 3D, is in theatres now. Next up she’ll be acting and showing off her amazingly awesome dance moves in the much-awaited Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Or you can check out her two new songs, “Flying Forward” and “Make History” on iTunes. We chatted with the Disney star about dance, Camp Rock, and why she loves her floss.
ELLEgirl: What do you love about dancing?
Alyson Stoner: Dance is really powerful and transformative – it’s the universal language that transcends gender, race, and differences. I like to say, “What words cannot express, dancing can do the rest.” Dancing is the medium for me to express what’s inside of me, and for me to share that with an audience. By them experiencing my dancing, the audience can themselves be liberated, which is something that a lot of people have closed themselves off from.
EG: How did you transition from dancing to acting?
AS: I began dancing at age three in my hometown, Toledo, Ohio. I then moved to LA where my agents encouraged me to try acting because of the expression that I had in my dancing. For me, the best is when I can combine the two – acting and dance – like in Step Up and Camp Rock.
EG: Right now you’re on tour with the cast of Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had on the tour so far?
AS: The first show was really memorable. The crowd was ecstatic, and the whole cast had an adrenaline rush – it was so rewarding to be on stage and shine as brightly as we could. That’s the most memorable moment but… I’m constantly blown away by the Jonas Brothers. They remember every venue and how the crowd was when they performed there. It’s really great to be performing with them and learning from them.

For one reason or another, mixing neutrals is sometimes a scary thing for teens. We want color! But Kristin Cavallari paired neutral pieces for an outfit that was both simple and cute.
To get her look, wear a breezy black top with short white denim shorts and tan sandals. If you can, try to find a pair with a little tassel (or fringe) like Kristen’s for added pizzazz. Then add a simple brown bag and matching belt to complete the look. Still looking for a bit of color? Slip on a bright turquoise necklace and pile your wrists high with your favorite Silly Bandz. One thing’s for sure – they’ll match with this outfit and add a pop of color!

For her recent visit to NY, Katy Perry wore two very different dresses. Arriving to The Late Show With David Letterman, the pop singer wore a body-con burnt orange Hervé Léger dress – we think it’s a much tamer look for her. In the evening, she was spotted with fiancé Russell Brand wearing a bubblegum-pink confection of a frock.
We love both of the looks on the style chameleon singer, but which look do you prefer – sleek and with minimal accessories, or flouncy and frou-frou?
The stylish Twilight actress Ashley Greene (check out her feature in ELLE here!) isn’t always completely glammed up. Here she’s given us a perfectly casual and comfy back to school outfit option!
To get Ashley’s style, roll up your favorite boyfriend jeans until they’re just below the knee (it’s a good way to beat the heat!) and pair them with a tank and tee layered on top. Finish off the look with low-key nude flats and a mini cross body bag on a chain. If you want to add some pizzazz to your getup, add a long layered necklace and a few Indian-inspired bangles.
The stars stepped out for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony yesterday in Los Angeles, where a few of our favorite young stars walked the red carpet. Three of them – Jennifer Stone, Miranda Cosgrove, and Chelsea Staub – impressed us so much at ELLEgirl that we decided to write a post about their girly and glam looks.
Jennifer Stone wowed in a cream-colored Tadashi Shoji Spring 2010 halter gown with curve-hugging ruching at the hip. The color looks amazing with Jennifer’s strawberry red hair, which she tossed over one shoulder. The whole look screams old Hollywood glam, but the metallic bag adds a touch of modernity. Plus, Jennifer picked up a Creative Arts Emmy with the rest of the cast of Wizards of Waverly PlaceThe Movie for Outstanding Children’s Program. Congrats!

iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove wore a youthful Marchesa embroidered dress, which she paired with an elaborate gold clutch and super-high Casadei platform pumps. She wore her hair straight and long with a middle part - a sleek alternative to her normal side part. And readers, take note – Dakota Fanning wore the same silver dress to appear on Jay Leno. Check out Dakota’s outfit here and tell us who you think wore it better!

We always love Chelsea Staub’s sartorial choices, but she outdid herself in a frothy masterpiece of a cocktail dress by BCBC Max Azria – it was summery, cute and flirty. We adore the pop of color she brought to the outfit with her little red clutch! Not to mention that her messy bun with a tiny pouf was done perfectly – no visible Snooki-ness detected. We can’t wait to see what the JONAS L.A. actress will wear to her next red carpet event.
