In the spirit of Halloween, Disney star and teen sensation Selena Gomez headed to Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York City to launch the Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF initiative: the program encourages kids to ask for donations on Halloween in order to help children in need around the world. ELLEgirl caught up with Selena at the event and found out her plans for October 31st (she’s dressing up as country music legend, June Carter!) and why she chose to support UNICEF’s cause. - Claire

EG: How does it feel to be chosen by UNICEF to launch this Trick-Or-Treat initiative?
SG: It’s absolutely an incredible honor. It’s wonderful because the people that UNICEF have chosen in the past are people like Sarah Jessica Parker, and Meg Ryan. I’m the youngest ever, so it’s absolutely a big deal to me. Also, I’m a role model, so to be able to spread good is a great feeling.
EG: Why do you think this cause is important?
SG: I feel like the world is getting less and less safe, it’s kind of scary. Every single day, 25,000 children die from things that we can prevent. This cause focuses on those things we can stop and how we can make a difference.
EG: Are you planning on trick-or-treating for UNICEF on October 31st?
S: Definitely. My parents and I are probably also going to donate our own little amount as well, but I think that trick-or-treating is going to be fun. Me and Demi [Lovato], my best friend, are going to probably have to wear masks! But it would be kind of neat to trick the kids that we’re walking by and freak them out!
EG: What was one of your favorite costumes growing up as a kid?
SG: I was Jasmine from Aladdin one year and I loved that one! I felt so princess-y and it was so cute. I got little ballet flats, and my hair was long and braided. It was great.
