I have to admit, when I first saw these spectacles on the likes of hipsters around town I was a bit skeptical. I mean, it takes a second to get over the image of Steve Urkel before you can appreciate that this trend is equal parts geek and chic. When celebrities like Chloe Sevigny began rocking thick frames, I knew that this trend had reached solid ground. Even Kirsten Dunst wore non-prescription glasses simply to mix up her look (I'm in no place to judge because even though I've never needed glasses, I donned Lisa Loeb-inspired clear frames in middle school. I was twelve. Don't judge me.).
For those of you brave enough to try out your own pair of Buddy Holly shades without investing too much money, try urbanoutfitters.com and explore your options. My personal favorite is this pair. No prescription needed and pocket protector not included.

I don't care if they're fake. She looks absolutely adorable.
So what's the verdict? Are thick-framed glasses a quirky way to look cool or are they just plain dorky?

It depends... if you're a trendy-wendy (haha) guy... like super-mod then it's ok. But if you're not a celebrity/model and can't pull it off, don't try. There are some girls at my school who try to do it but honestly they look like such idiots!
So I guess.... Love it AND leave it! :)

I love geek glasses! I actually do wear glasses and when I had to pick out my frames I said, "Hey! Why not go all out! Oh yeah Peter Parker style!" People like my glasses because they are extreme and different.
