Few are more deserving of the “girl who does it all” title than Madison Davenport. At only 11 years old, Madison boasts quite the resume; she was the voice of Quillo in Over the Hedge, has appeared on TV shows like CSI: New York, and has released four music albums. I had the opportunity to sit down with this up-and-coming actress last week to talk about her crazy schedule, current crushes, and star-making role in the upcoming film Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, where she plays Kit’s best friend, Ruthie Smithens.
Can you tell me a little bit about Kit Kittredge: An American Girl? Do you think you are a lot like Ruthie?
In some ways I think that I am kind of like Ruthie. She’s a girly girl and I am kind of a girly girl, but what Kit Kittredge is about is a 10 year old girl, Kit, who wants to become a reporter for the Cincinnati Reporter. She’s trying to help her family during this hard time, the Depression. Ruthie is trying to help her family too, and she is also solving a mystery with Kit. The movie is about not judging people for what they look like or what they have, as well as believing in yourself and being able to fight for what you want.
What type of film roles do you prefer: serious or fun ones?
I think they are both really fun. I like to play the intense roles, but that’s just me.
I have heard you like to design and draw clothes, is that true?
I just love to draw them out and draw the dresses. I just like the whole idea of a cute little summer dress. I would look up all the fabrics online and all the colors. I really like the way that royal blue and pink look together.
Would you ever want to be a designer someday?
Well I definitely would like to design my own clothes someday, but I still want to be an actress of course. Maybe when I go to my premieres, and people ask me, “Who are you wearing?” I say, “I’m wearing Madison Davenport.”
Any stores in New York that you really love?
I haven’t done any sightseeing, but I’ve been to Toys R’ Us and I definitely found some cute toys that are also very chic.
What’s your beauty routine before a big premiere?
Bubbles. If you want to relax, take a bath with bubbles. That’s all I can say, because I don’t wear makeup yet.
Great advice! Do you have any celebrity crushes?
No I don’t have any celebrity crushes. It’s just school crushes. Well, I used to like Orlando Bloom and Leonardo DiCaprio.
What about Max from the movie?
I like him as a brother. If he were my brother, I would love him dearly.
Do you have any boy advice for ELLEgirl readers?
Please don’t blabber when you talk. Whenever I’m around a boy that I like, I’m like eh, eh, eh...
So just stay cool?
Just stay cool and just try to be yourself. Whenever I am around boys, I have this really obnoxious giggle. So whatever you do, just try to act normal. Don’t do anything weird because I do a lot of things weird. But don’t feel bad if you do, because so do I.
