Katy Perry Thinks Ur So Gay

The first time I heard Katy Perry, I hated her. I’m not sure if it was the song (“UR So Gay”), her voice, or the Perez endorsement, but something about her rubbed me the wrong way. I crossed my fingers that she wouldn’t get big and figured that I’d never listen to her again…until I was invited to check her out at her first New York gig last week. Am I glad that I begrudgingly went—Katy Perry is for real. And there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s going to be huge. Here’s why:

I was totally inspired by the nautical trend that Jenny Lewis, lead singer of the band Rilo Kiley, donned at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last weekend. Check out this cute picture of her from the front page of WWD today...

Mum's Icelandic Invasion

Where else would the otherworldly band Mum play at than the Brookly Masonic Temple, a huge building with marble columns and giant wooden beams etched with flowers? The Icelandic experimental pop group, which has been together for over ten years now, brought its ethereal melodies--and its many band members--to New York last week. The band has been a mainstay in the indie pop scene for years now, putting out solid album after solid album. The audience was full of Mum fans, sitting patiently while the band switched instruments (everything from a cello to melodicas were passed around).

Seeing Double With Brit & Alex

Last week I spoke with Brittany Smith, one-half of pop/R&B duo Brit & Alex, while they were traveling through Paris. I made sure to tell her that every article about them will probably begin by mentioning 1) They’re identical twins, and 2) You’ll remember them from a 2001 John Frieda Sheer Blonde commercial. And mine is no different.

It turns out the girls never really clicked with the modeling thing, or liked the acting they did as children.

Lil' Mama: a Lil' Crazy

Lil' Mama dropped by TRL yesterday in a characteristically out there ensemble...kind of old school hip-hop meets Sweatin' to the Oldies meets crazy lady on the corner. In a good way.

Linds showed up to the launch of LG's HD TV something-or-other in an ensemble fit for a Vegas cocktail waitress...is it just us or is she looking a bit "tired" lately?

projctrunwaygrl says: Lindsay, darling pet--you need to work on your red carpet posing a bit. Standing spread-eagle like that is surely not the way to inject a little class into the situation. Although, to be fair, neither is wearing a dress that looks like it came from the discount bin at the ice-skating rink.

Thalia says: Here's Lindsay, rocking the bubble hem about a year too late, and the "Farrah" about 35 years too late. She really, really looks like her mother's sister now, and not because her mother looks young either...
