Who: Natalie Portman
What: The Black Swan star chose a strapless amethyst Dior dress and pink satin platforms for the opening of the 65th annual Venice Film Festival’s photo call of her new film.
Wear: Dior dress
Natalie Portman commanded the red carpet in opulent jewel shades at the opening of the Venice Film Festival for the photo call for her new psychological thriller Black Swan, in which the star plays a tortured ballerina who is cast in an upcoming production of Swan Lake. Directed by Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream) and co-starring Mila Kunis (who is rumored to have an aggressive sex scene with Portman in the film), Black Swan is filled with magnificent costumes (designed by Rodarte’s sisters Mulleavy) that will no doubt delight style watchers when it opens this December.

Disney’s resident heiress, London Tipton from The Suite Life on Deck, is all about excess. Her personal style, no matter the outfit, includes lots and lots of ice. Bling. Whatever you call it, she’s always dripping in jewels. Other than that, she prefers tailored outfits like silk pants and a ruffled top with platform heels or a great satin dress. And money’s no object, so she never, never repeats an outfit.
London’s over the top style is great for a big party, but toned down it offers great tips on accessorizing – namely to be careful of wearing too many accessories. But if you’re going all out London-style, don’t skimp on the jewels, shoes, and purses and make sure that your mani and pedi are perfect. As for hair, London loves a side pony – sometimes with a feather scrunchie. Just remember to work your attitude with the ‘fit!

Glee’s Lea Michele is known for hitting a fashionable high note both onscreen and off. Who better to turn to for BTS beauty tips than a girl who plays a student on TV? Michele got blunt bangs a couple of months ago, but they have slowly evolved into softer, sides-wept bangs. We think this works better for students, mostly because they stay out of your face, making it much easier to do your school work. Here's how to style them when you're pressed for time:
1. Squeeze a small amount of texturizing balm or mousse into your hands and distribute evenly through your (dry) bangs.
2. Curl a round brush underneath then over the bangs at an angle to the side of your face with a hairdryer on low. Don't spend too much time on this step; you want the look to be a bit haphazard.
3. Once you're happy with how your bangs contour your face, spritz with a little hairspray.
We think shaking up your look with bangs is both dramatic and commitment-free. Yes, you will have to maintain them for some time (hair dryers and straighteners are a must). However, if you aren’t really feeling them, they will grow out soon enough. In the meantime, you can accessorize your edgier cut with some edgier clothing. Calling Madonna’s Material Girl!

Hey ELLEgirls!
I just wanted to thank you all for letting me share my summer fun with you :)
It was such a memorable one, and I can’t believe it’s already over! I had the opportunity to travel all over the country, launch my own clothing line, meet new friends, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
A few weeks ago, I was in California and was part of a really cool event called the Supergirl Jam at Venice Beach. It was an action packed event with snowboarding (yes, AT the beach), skateboarding and in-line skating. Talk about GIRL POWER. These girls were absolutely amazing… It kind of put my flipping on a four-inch beam to shame!
It was such an inspiration to meet so many awesome girls and watch them compete with such passion. I also made some new friends from the new CW series, Hellcats, which premiers on September 8th. Aly Michalka and Robbie Jones were both so nice… I got to talk to Aly for a bit, and it was really neat to be able to share our experiences from our different worlds, acting, and gymnastics… We have both kept in touch, and hopefully our busy schedules will collide somewhere soon!
As this season comes to an end, a new one begins, with new goals, dreams and opportunities. I hope you all have a wonderful school year and don’t ever be afraid to dream too big and find the SUPERGIRL in you!

Lois Lane may be a serious reporter at the Daily Planet, but her businesslike clothes always err on the side of figure-hugging and sleek. Plus, even though she regularly gets into brawls with the bad guys (she won’t leave it to Superman just yet!), she always wears perfectly pointy heels. Her Smallville style embodies that of a powerful woman – both physically and intellectually.
Take pointers from Lois’ tailored fashions if you’re starting an internship or looking to ace a job interview. Wear pencil skirts or boot-cut pants with a crease in the front and pair it with a simple oxford shirt in white or red (Lois’ fave). Top it off with bare legs, a matching blazer or sexy trench coat, and a cute carryall as a briefcase substitute. Out of the office, though, Lois is a jeans and tank top kind of gal – so don’t get too serious about replicating her office style.

Q. I’m going to be senior in high school this fall and will start to look at colleges soon. What are the most important factors that you consider when choosing a school?
A. For starters, if you know what you want to major in, this search will be easily narrowed down. If not, that is okay too. I would say your first step should be to look for schools that not only have your major but are well known for it. If you don’t know what you want to major in, start out by looking at schools that have a lot of majors in a field that you take general interest in. So if you’re a science person, go to a school that has a lot of different majors in the science department.
Another important thing to do is to go visit the school. Ask yourself, do I fit here, do I like it here, is this me? Really take in the place, try to get a student to show you around. They know the best places, and it will help you meet people. Another very important thing is location. If you need to travel home a lot, don’t pick a school too far away. If you’re not a small town person, don’t go to one. Your surroundings are more important than you think, so consider it.
There are many other reasons why you should pick a school, but those are the big points. A few reasons why not to pick a school: One would be because a best friend, boyfriend, or anyone else is going there (it never works the way you think it will). Another would be because you didn’t look anywhere else. Don’t just settle make sure the school fits. Transferring is no fun. Trust me.

Emily Fields is a top-notch athlete and her wardrobe shows it. Pretty Little Liars’ star swimmer may be secretly struggling with her love life (dating her gal pal and then the school’s bad boy), but she’s got her style set in stone. Emily’s look is totally sporty and relaxed. She often wears sneakers and hoodies, denim and khaki, and Emily loves a plain t-shirt with stripes or a pop of color.
To be Emily’s style twin just wear a comfortable t-shirt with some color, a khaki skirt, and a denim jacket. Add a pair of sneakers for an easy transition from class to sports practice – or in Emily’s case, for a quick getaway from bad guys!

If you’re like me, you remember Alyson Stoner as the co-host of Mike’s Super Short Show on the Disney Channel in 2002, but she’s grown up into a gracious and sweet triple-threat with multiple projects in entertainment. Her newest film, Step Up 3D, is in theatres now. Next up she’ll be acting and showing off her amazingly awesome dance moves in the much-awaited Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Or you can check out her two new songs, “Flying Forward” and “Make History” on iTunes. We chatted with the Disney star about dance, Camp Rock, and why she loves her floss.
ELLEgirl: What do you love about dancing?
Alyson Stoner: Dance is really powerful and transformative – it’s the universal language that transcends gender, race, and differences. I like to say, “What words cannot express, dancing can do the rest.” Dancing is the medium for me to express what’s inside of me, and for me to share that with an audience. By them experiencing my dancing, the audience can themselves be liberated, which is something that a lot of people have closed themselves off from.
EG: How did you transition from dancing to acting?
AS: I began dancing at age three in my hometown, Toledo, Ohio. I then moved to LA where my agents encouraged me to try acting because of the expression that I had in my dancing. For me, the best is when I can combine the two – acting and dance – like in Step Up and Camp Rock.
EG: Right now you’re on tour with the cast of Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had on the tour so far?
AS: The first show was really memorable. The crowd was ecstatic, and the whole cast had an adrenaline rush – it was so rewarding to be on stage and shine as brightly as we could. That’s the most memorable moment but… I’m constantly blown away by the Jonas Brothers. They remember every venue and how the crowd was when they performed there. It’s really great to be performing with them and learning from them.
